Walter White -GRAM on the Green

GRAM on the Green 2015

GRAM will once again bring the heart of downtown Grand Rapids to life on Thursday evenings with its popular free summer concert series, GRAM on the Green. For six weeks, GRAM on the Green energizes the city and transforms the urban downtown landscape into a dynamic and inclusive gathering space. Guests of all ages are invited to relax on the Museum terrace as they enjoy the diverse musical offerings by local and regional artists, play oversized games on the Wege Plaza, sip on cool refreshments from the cash bar, and grab a bite to eat from a variety of food truck vendors. Throughout the evening, guests are invited to visit the Museum galleries for free and explore exhibitions on view throughout the summer months. In addition to free admission, all outdoor activities are free of charge. Concerts begin at 6:00 pm, and will conclude at 8:30 pm. Last call will be at 8:15 pm.

Walter White has emerged with a personal voice on both trumpet and flugel horn, his playing is darkly incantatory, furiously intense, risk-laden, harmonically astute, rhythmically free, with roiling passion tempering a sharp intellect. His bands play solid originals and his own exciting arrangements from both the standard jazz and classical literature.

Walter serves as leader of the Walter White Jazz Quartet, the Walter White Big Band, and his 11-piece band, Walter White & Small Medium @ Large, who recently released the recording, Breaking Good, which received substantial national radio play and reached into the top 20 on the Jazz Week charts. His newest jazz quartet recording, Walter White Quartet, Most Triumphant, was released in July 2014 on Summit Records and stayed on Jazz Week’s top-50 charts for over ten weeks.
